Johnnie Walker Double Black

Johnnie Walker Double Black

4,100

Johnnie Walker Double Black is an intense, full-bodied blended Scotch whisky. Inspired by the iconic Johnnie Walker Black Label, it offers a deeper, smokier flavour profile, crafted using naturally smoky whiskies and malts matured in heavily charred oak casks.

Building upon the foundation of Johnnie Walker Black Label, Double Black amplifies the characteristic flavours to deliver a more intense and complex experience. Master Blender Jim Beveridge created this expression by selecting whiskies known for their natural smokiness, primarily from the West Coast and Islands of Scotland, and blending them with other carefully chosen malts and grains. A key element is the maturation process, which involves using deeply charred oak casks. This process imparts layers of spice and smoke, complementing the peat smoke derived from the malt. The result is a powerful blend with signature peat smoke leading the way, followed by rich raisins and fruits (apples, pears, orange zest), creamy vanilla, and warm spices, culminating in a long, warming finish dominated by smoke and oak tannins. It's designed for those who appreciate the style of Black Label but desire a bolder, smokier character.

Serving Suggestions

Neat: To fully appreciate its complex smoky character.

With a Splash of Water: Adding a few drops of still water can open up the aromas and soften the intensity slightly.

On the Rocks: Served over ice, which chills the whisky and dilutes it slowly.

Interesting Facts

No Age Statement: Unlike Johnnie Walker Black Label (which carries a 12-year age statement), Double Black does not have an age statement. This gives the blenders flexibility to use whiskies of various ages to achieve the desired smoky profile.

Charred Casks: Uses more heavily charred casks than Black Label, contributing extra layers of spice and smoke.

West Coast Focus: While a blend from across Scotland, it specifically selects whiskies with pronounced peat smoke, often associated with distilleries on Scotland's West Coast and Islands (like Islay).
