The distillery was founded by William Matheson, who converted a former brewery into a whisky-making haven in 1843. The name "Glenmorangie" comes from the Gaelic "Gleann Mòr na Sìth," meaning "valley of tranquility." For generations, a dedicated team of skilled craftsmen, known as the "Men of Tain," have passed down their knowledge and passion, ensuring the consistent quality and distinctive character of Glenmorangie. Our pioneering spirit extends to our innovative wood finishing program, where we carefully select and use different types of oak casks to mature our whisky, unlocking a spectrum of exciting flavors and aromas.
